WLB Book FAQ

Questions Frequently Asked about the Book
Women, Leadership, and the Bible: How Do I Know What to Believe?

  • What's the purpose of your book?
  • I passionately believe in helping women develop biblically and theologically so that they may "graciously tackle" the issue of women's roles in church leadership with grounded, seminary-level tools for interpretation in the power of the Holy Spirit. The simple method I teach in the book will also enable them to face other issues squarely with their hardest questions, so they can find answers.
  • WLB lets Christian women know, "You can do this!"...and then teaches them how.
  • What makes it different from other books on women's issues?
  • {Coming soon!}
  • I'm not really concerned about the question of women's roles in church leadership. Will this book still help me?
  • Whether or not the exact subject of women in church leadership roles is an "issue" for you (or your church or group), a thoughtful approach to understanding the issue can help a person feel secure in their practices and help them understand the interpretations of others. That type of studied, thoughtful understanding promotes good and helpful dialogue among Christians.
  • Also, the method I present applies to other issues, too. As we all know, many other theological issues have been or will likely become "issues" at some point.

Also, and very importantly, the method Dr. Eastman presents applies to other issues, too. As we all know, many other theological issues have been or will likely become "issues" at some point.
  • How will WLB benefit my personal spiritual growth, or the spiritual growth of my church?
  • I believe and hope this book will benefit individuals and churches in several ways:
• Engages women with the Bible! (It doesn't get much better than that, but I'll still list more benefits. ;-)

• Encourages women toward further biblical and theological development.

• Develops women as critical thinkers, so they can embrace their faith and service with groundedness and confidence.

• Urges independent thought within the context of Christian community, with unity being the ultimate goal.

• Equips women with seminary-level hermeneutical (interpretation) skills and tools on an introductory level and, hopefully, whets their appetites (or satisfies one!) for further and deeper biblical studies.

• Teaches women to recognize and face internal and external influences that impact their faith and practice.

• Encourages grace-filled dialogue and study about this and other "controversial" issues within a safe space.

• Provides a "virtual community" for women who really want to get to the bottom of things, biblically speaking.
  • What inspired you to write WLB?
  • {“why” I so passionately want to help people, especially women, develop biblically and theologically...}
  • Is this the kind of resource that will be hard to use via e-book? Or does it read like a normal nonfiction?
  • {Coming soon!}
  • You’ve received some flack – good-natured flack – about your book’s long title. How did you arrive to that title?
  • {Coming soon!}
  • How could things change if every Christian woman were to read your book? (Dr. Eastman answers...)
  • How to contain this answer?? In a nutshell, much could change – and for the better of individuals, the church, entire communities, and (dare I say it?) the world! Am I overstating things? I don't believe so, because here are all the ways women (men, too) can be positively impacted toward maturity and used by God for the maturity of the church:
• Your Bible Study Can Explode! Watch Scripture come alive before your very eyes as you learn to study the Bible with the accuracy and acumen of a seminary student.
• Improved relationships! Relaxation in your relationships - more grace for others, particularly with those who have come to a different conclusion from yours, because you understand their belief, whether they have actually studied it for themselves or not.
• Reduce (or remove) conflict in relationships! You can gently engage loved ones, friends, and colleagues in their position, whether they agree or disagree with yours, from a biblically informed perspective.
• Open relationships! No more sneaking around, avoiding conversations with loved ones, friends, and colleagues because the issue is controversial. You understand all important aspects of the discussion and can engage with gentleness, love, focus, biblical awareness, and personal clarity, always moving toward unity. No more avoidance of potentially disastrous conversations.
• Peace! Put to rest any anger you feel within the Body of Christ, your family, or your workplace or ministry, or perhaps even towards God, over being bamboozled about your confusing issue.
• Motivation! Motivated to help other women and men know for themselves and to help God's church grow to further maturity (Eph. _)
• Capability! Ability to engage other women and men and help them sort through their questions, find clarity, and know biblical answers for themselves in an intellectually rigorous way
  • I'm a blogger/reporter/educator/pastor and would like to review WLB for possible use or review. May I request a review/exam copy from your publisher?
  • Yes! People who are interested in women's biblical and theological development and are in any sort of leadership/influence role, a consistent blogger, or in the media (of pretty much any kind), they can request a review copy from James Stock (james@wipfandstock.com).
Educators and ministers wishing to consider WLB for use in their classroom or church may request an exam copy from James Stock, as well.

Of course, both the publisher and Dr. Eastman hope you will consider reviewing WLB on Amazon or another helpful place (GoodReads is wonderful, too), and/or creating a blog post reviewing it. Any of those actions would be highly appreciated!

If a person is interested but is not in some sort of "influence" role, they may be interested to know that we run book giveaway contests on the book's facebook page almost monthly. Just enter "Women, Leadership, and the Bible" in Facebook’s search box and "like" the page to stay in the loop on the giveaway contests.

Otherwise, anyone can learn more about it and purchase it through www.womenleadershipbible.com by clicking this sentence, which is hyperlinked.
